SafetyChain Software’s May FSMA Fridays Session to Focus on Foreign Supplier Verification Program

Monthly series with Dr. David Acheson and The Acheson Group Team, FSMA Fridays May session will take place on Friday, May 19

San Rafael, CA – SafetyChain Software, the leading innovator of food safety & quality management solutions, is pleased to announce the May 2017 topic for its popular FSMA Fridays series with The Acheson Group team – The Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP).

Taking place on a monthly basis for over 3 years, FSMA Fridays is a complimentary online series that provides the food & beverage industry with the latest updates and insights on FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

Past FSMA Fridays sessions have covered topics such as Listeria, common myths and gaps in FSMA compliance, and environmental controls relative to FSMA. Recaps of each session are posted on the SafetyChain Software blog, with recent posts focusing on the April session’s discussion of the Sanitary Transportation Rule.

In addition to a FSMA update for May, this month’s FSMA Fridays session will focus on the Foreign Supplier Verification Program. With the first FSVP compliance date fast approaching on May 30, 2017, the goal of the discussion will be to help the industry understand the final rule, which requires that importers perform certain risk-based activities to verify that food imported into the United States has been produced in a manner that meets applicable U.S. safety standards. In addition to addressing participant questions, FSVP topics will include:

  • Who does FSVP apply to?
  • What are the key misconceptions surrounding the FSVP rule?
  • How does the FSVP rule complement FSMA?
  • What are the key challenges companies are facing in complying?
  • For companies that the FSVP rule does not apply to, what should they be aware of that could impact them?
